Barwicker No.115

As we have a few Society members who live in Aberford it only seemed right to include information on the First World War from that village as well. Heather Walker kindly lent me the wartime correspondence between her uncles who all served in WWI and the family back home. These can be seen on the below.



If the above card home was typical of those written by servicemen during WWI it can be assumed that none of them wanted to let their families back in England know just what conditions were like. Willie Young sent many cards home and on most of them he just put he was healthy and hoped everyone at home was as well. It was very occasionally that the men at the front gave their loved ones any information about what conditions were really like.
